Let’s Find Out What P1Harmony Can Really Do | Disharmony: Find Out Favorites

Hey, everyone! My name is Olivia, and I’m excited to talk to y’all about P1Harmony’s newest released mini-album Disharmony: Find out. I haven’t been following P1Harmony super closely, but I did like their debut song “Siren” and I liked “Scared”, so I was so excited to listen to their newest comeback “Do It Like This”. Although I’ve already listened to “Do It Like This” plenty of times, I still haven’t listened to the other songs on their album more than once in the car. I’m interested in seeing which song ends up being my favorite b-side. I apologize beforehand if this is longšŸ˜…

Do It Like This

When I originally listened to the highlight medley for this mini-album…honestly, I was really surprised that “Do It Like This” was going to be the title track. Even when I first listened to the full song, it just didn’t really sound like a title track to me. However, the more I listened to it the more I adored the song, and now I think it’s super-duper catchy. I like this song so much that I finally looked up the members’ names the other day. For those who know me, I’m really bad at getting into groups and learning names because it’s easier for me to just have a song phase. Honestly, I looked up the members’ names because I really wanted to know the identity of the member that I now know as Intak haha.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like “Do It Like This” at first. It kind of had a weird beat and sound, and I’m usually more into cute, lighthearted songs. However, then they started singing. First of all, I didn’t expect that voice to come out of Jiung’s mouth. I don’t actually know what each boy sounds like, so I kind of just go off of physical appearance. I also didn’t expect his part to be so smooth sounding because of how hardcore the background beat was. That verse and the lifts at the end were really ear-catching. Ahhh Intak, I really liked his part, and it actually made me involuntarily giggle, so that caught me off-guard haha. His swagger also really impresses me because I could never pull that off. The contrast between his staccato part and Keeho’s legato and smooth voice threw me for a loop. These element switches and voice contrasts help ground the piece though and make it really engaging and unique. It really helps each member shine too since the next part is Theo’s with his higher-ranged voice.

I so thought that I wouldn’t like the chorus, but I find it very charming now. On the highlight medley, I was actually super disappointed because I thought it was kind of repetitive and there wasn’t anything special about it. I also thought that the dance was too hard for it to be a successful Tik Tok trendšŸ˜… I know that if I ever tried this dance, I would feel dumb; however, the guys really sell it with their coolness and swagger. Soul’s ‘Do it, do it, do it, do it, do it like this’ part and dance is weirdly awesome. Also, this is so random, but something about that random white dude with curly brown hair makes me laugh because I feel like he’s lowkey featured but not in the actual groupšŸ˜‚

I was really impressed by Jongseob’s part, and I thought it was too short! I feel like it ended two lines too early, but I won’t be too petty about it. The scene where he gets on the table might be one of my favorite scenes in the MV. It’s cool how different that party scene is from Theo’s scene with just him and statues around him. I will stand by this…until someone comes at me because I’m scared of conflict: I really don’t like the pause in the middle of the MV. I know it’s because MVs can be more about story and plot production, but I always think it’s unnecessary, and it was lowkey cliche. It also made Theo’s part seem out of place when that’s not the case in the actual song. I absolutely LOVE the little inserts of ‘Gotta do it like this. Gotta do it like’ during Soul ‘Do it, do it, do it’ part. It added just a little flavor. I didn’t think this song would have a lasting impression on me, but I’ve been listening to it practically every day since it came out haha.

Follow Me

I suppose “Follow Me” being one of my favorite b-sides isn’t surprising. I’m pretty sure a good majority of y’all are with me on this one. The thing that really stood out to me was how well each member fit their part. It’s like their parts were made for them, and this song just utilizes their charms and talents really well. Jongseob starts this song out strong, and it’s both cool but also fun with all the extra sounds in the background and while he’s rapping. I love this because that’s the exact vibe I get from him as a performer. I want to see Jongseob perform more because lately he’s been catching my eye since he always performs with a smile that expresses that there’s no place he’d rather be. The beat is kind of rigid, so I can really feel the contrast in texture and rhythm when it comes to Jiung and Keeho’s voices. In this song, Jiung’s voice works really well for melodic build-up, and Keeho’s voice helps ground it because of how rich his voice is. I love that the song then all of a sudden slows down again and is emptier in order to showcase Theo’s more lullaby ballad-like voice.

Then the drums kick back in, and I absolutely adore the true build-up between Intak and Soul/Theo. Keeho doing the ‘Rise up and follow me’ line contains just the right amount of smooth sass that makes people kind of feel like a boss when singing it. I don’t know how I totally feel about the chorus after that line though. It’s not bad, but I do sometimes feel like they could’ve developed the chorus into something even better if they tried. I may feel like it’s lacking though because for some reason this song makes me think of “Runaway” by TXT, and the chorus in that song…I don’t even know what I want to say. The two songs kind of remind me of each other, but the chorus in “Runaway” seems like every line has a direction and purpose. Although this chorus is good and still catchy for the most part, some of the lines they sing altogether come off to me as filler lines.

The second verse is pretty good too. Honestly, I want an MV just because I want to see Jongseob and Intak rap in the beginning of their verses. It would be so cool! In this song, P1Harmony sings so effortlessly and smoothly that they give off a natural charm. Sigh, I love Keeho’s voice in this song because it’s not solely melodic, but it’s still smooth. My vocabulary feels so small right now hahašŸ˜‚ Jiung’s voice also makes my heart melt. I kind of prefer Intak to have the build-up part though instead of Jongseob just because Intak’s voice seems to pack more of a punch. Overall, I really like the song, and I’m excited to listen to it more over the next few weeks.

Peacemaker

Ah, this post is getting so long haha. I wanted to talk a little bit about “Peacemaker” though. This song hits a little differently than most of the songs on the album, and the style is pretty unique amidst all of these tougher songs. As an ex-piano major, I always appreciate piano being included in the opening and background. I absolutely love the choreography because it’s almost contemporary ballet-like. While “Follow Me” distinctly showcases each member individually, “Peacemaker” does the opposite and makes them shine as a group. Each transition is smooth and flawless. This song is just one big hug and really gives me a sense of unity. The way they perform this song is like them saying that we may struggle, we may love, lose, celebrate, and even hurt, but no matter what we will be doing it together. I love Jiung’s expression towards the end of the performance. That little smile captures everything that I’m feeling when listening to this song.
